Dr. Ma Jun

Dr. Ma Jun is President of the Institute of Finance and Sustainability, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee of the Green Accelerator, Chairman of the Green Finance Committee of the China Society for Finance & Banking, Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Finance Association, Chairman of the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), and Co-Chair of IPSF Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Working Group.

Previously, Dr. Ma served as Co-Chair of the G20 Sustainable Finance Working Group, Steering Committee Member of the Central Banks and Supervisors’ Network on Greening the Financial System (NGFS), Member of the Monetary Committee and Chief Economist of the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), Managing Director/Chief Economist/Investment Strategist for Greater China at Deutsche Bank, Senior Economist at the World Bank, Economist at the IMF, and Research Fellow at the Development Research Center of China’s State Council.

Dr. Ma has been a leading advocate and practitioner of green and sustainable finance in China and globally. He led the drafting of China’s first green finance guidelines and green bond standard, and played a key role in developing global consensus on scaling up green and transition finance under the G20 framework. He and his team have advised numerous countries, local governments, and financial institutions on developing green, sustainable, and climate finance strategies, standards, products, and projects, and have assisted major financial institutions with their investment strategies.

Dr. Ma has received numerous awards for his research and advocacy on green finance and sustainability. Dr. Ma holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Georgetown University (1994) and a Master’s degree in Management Science from Fudan University (1988).
