Professor Berglof is Director, House of Governance and Public Policy, Stockholm School of Economics where he is leading the creation of a new public policy program for the challenges of the 21st century. Prior to (re)-joining SSE in September this year, he served as the inaugural Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank where he built the economics function and established thought leadership as a core activity of the Bank pushing policy-based lending for climate and nature, nature as infrastructure and infrastructure for planetary health.
Before coming to AIIB, Berglof was the inaugural Director of the Institute of Global Affairs, London School of Economics which later merged into the LSE School of Public Policy; Chief Economist of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development; and Director, SITE at Stockholm School of Economics. At EBRD, he was part of creating and co-led the Vienna Initiative, a European crisis response mechanism credited with mitigating the impact of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. He is an expert in economic governance and transition with a particular interest in structural transformation within planetary boundaries. He has published extensively in top academic journals and is a CEPR Distinguished Fellow, ECGI Fellow and ECFR Fellow.
