In this briefing paper, Morphosis profiles the beta release of the Adaptation Economy Index (AEI), introducing a world-first approach to measuring progress in adapting national economies to severe climate impacts and disruptions. The Index provides an aggregate ranking of 72 countries based on quantitative scores, acting as a data-driven diagnostic tool for policymakers, investors, and solution providers to effectively plan, fund, and scale adaptation solutions.

The Adaptation Economy Index builds on an initial prototype launched at the World Economic Forum in January 2026 and the seven-pillar Adaptation Economy Framework developed by Morphosis in partnership with the Center for Sustainability Studies at Fundação Getulio Vargas, Instituto Itaúsa, the Paulson Institute, and Basilinna, which was released in November 2025.
